India set another global record in new virus cases today, with another 375,000 people infected, as the country gears up to open its vaccination rollout to all adults on Saturday.
It now has reported more than 18.3 million cases, behind only the United States. The health ministry also reported 3,645 deaths in the last 24-hour period, bringing India s total to 204,832, according to the health ministry. Experts believe both figures are an undercount, but it s unclear by how much.

Born in Sri Lanka and adopted by Swedish parents and living in Germany, Mathilda Karlsso is the first qualifier for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games as well as the first equestrian representing Sri Lanka in an Olympic Event.
The appeal made by Mathilda Karlsson and Sri Lanka Equestrian Association to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland against the FEI, was given in favour of Mathilda, who has once again been restored to second position in the ranking from the South East Asia Oceania region, and thus secured one of the 15 Olympic slots for show jumping.

The highest number of COVID cases in the country was reported yesterday (29) with a record of 1,466 cases.
This is the second consecutive day that the number of patients reported in a day has exceeded 1,000.
The highest number of patients were reported from the Colombo District, which was 228.
Meanwhile, when PCR tests were conducted on 14 persons in Divulwewa, Anamaduwa, 12 of them had tested positive for the virus. The persons diagnosed were identified to be relatives and had attended several Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations together.
Random tests which were carried out at the Galenbindunuwewa weekly market have diagnosed several fish traders with the coronavirus. A tense situation arose when the authorities decided to take measures to close the weekly fair. Four persons who obstructed the duties of Public Health Inspectors were also arrested.
